It’s a big year in the history of our nation - we celebrate our 50th year in existence. While many will dismiss us as a little red dot, the fact is that Singapore’s come so far, in so short a time because of the pure grit and determination our citizens have shown for the past five decades- and these same traits will help push your aching and tired body past the Urbanathlon finishing line this year!

Our home has been built on the backs of the men and women working side by side, and at this year’s Urbanthlon both sexes will prove their mettle by taking on every obstacle with equal skill and panache!

There’s a reason why this obstacle race has gained a cult following amongst the running community in Singapore - because each and every year it gets tougher and tougher! With brand new obstacles like the Tipping Point,Bottom Line and Wheel & Deal awaiting them, and revamped versions of old favourites like the Network, Workload, Balance Sheet, and Leap of Faith, all Urbanathletes will have to dig deep into their physical and mental reserves to conquer these challenges.

On top of this, following on last year’s popular Mystery Obstacle is another that will again test your body and mind like no plain run can. There’s no way of training for this- you’ll have to wait till race-day itself to find out what’s in store for you!

Outstanding prizes await the top three runners for the individual category, and the top three teams from the corporate category. Everyone who completes the race gets a finisher’s T-shirt, medal and personalised certificate.

Each Urbanathlete will receive a race pack worth over $400, including an adidas race tee and a complimentary six-month digital subscription to Men’s Health.

The race is open to male and female runners 18 years old and above. Hurry though - only a limited number of race slots are available!

OBSTACLE 1: BALANCE SHEET [MODIFIED] BY TRUE FITNESS

Balance yourself across 4-inch wide beams.

Your task: 

  1. Steady yourself on the sloping beam, and step across to the straight beams.
  2. Balance yourself and make your way across the next sets of beams of different heights
  3. Jump off over the cone at the end of the beams to clear this obstacle.
  4. If you are unsuccessful in your first attempt, you are required to make another attempt at the RETRY queue. If you fail in your re-attempt, 5 minutes will be added to your final timing as a penalty, and you will be allowed to continue with the course.

 

OBSTACLE 2: BOTTOM LINE [NEW]

Journey across a slackline and swing to safety.

Your task:

  1. Traverse the slackline with a little help from the dangling ropes.
  2. Swing yourself using the ropes onto a platform at the end of the slackline. If you are unsuccessful in your first attempt, you are required to make another attempt at the RETRY queue.
  3. If you fail in your re-attempt, 5 minutes will be added to your final timing as a penalty, and you will be allowed to continue with the course.

 

 

OBSTACLE 3: LATERAL MOVE BY POLAR

Power through two sets of parallel bars.

Your task:

  1. Make your way across a pair of 6m-long parallel bars using your hands.
  2. Manoeuvre down a second set of parallel bars, with your hands on one bar and feet on the other.
  3. If you are unsuccessful in your first attempt, you are required to make another attempt at the RETRY queue. If you fail in your re-attempt, 5 minutes will be added to your final timing as a penalty, and you will be allowed to continue with the course.

 

 

OBSTACLE 4: LEAP OF FAITH [MODIFIED] BY CASIO

Take a 2m leap of faith.

Your task:

  1. Climb up the 2m high tower.
  2. Approach the end of the platform. Walk with care and do not run!
  3. Aim for the rope that is 1.2m away and leap off. Stretch out to grab it if you can.
  4. Hang on to the rope and lower yourself onto the crash mats.
  5. Beware of rope burn! There is no retry for this obstacle. If you fail to complete this obstacle, 5 minutes will be added to your final timing as a penalty, and you will be allowed to continue with the course.

 

OBSTACLE 5: THE NETWORK [MODIFIED]

Climb up and down a 3.2m high 3-ton truck using a rope web.

Your task:

  1. Get on all fours to climb up the vertical wall of the rope web.
  2. When you get to the top of the truck, turn around and descend the sloping rope web on the other side feet first. Avoid getting your limbs trapped in the net as it will slow down your progress.
  3. There is no retry for this obstacle. If you fail to complete this obstacle, 5 minutes will be added to your final timing as a penalty, and you will be allowed to continue with the course.

 

 

OBSTACLE 6: TIPPING POINT [NEW] BY LAB SERIES FOR MEN

Work your way past your tipping point on a narrow plank.

Your task:

  1. Climb up the narrow plank with limited room to manoeuvre.
  2. Get ready for the tipping point.
  3. Continue to make your way down the other end of the plank.
  4. If you are unsuccessful in your first attempt, you are required to make another attempt at the RETRY queue. If you fail in your re-attempt, 5 minutes will be added to your final timing as a penalty, and you will be allowed to continue with the course.

 

OBSTACLE 7: WHEEL & DEAL [NEW] BY NAUTICA 

Squeeze your way through tyres of different heights.

Your task:

  1. Test your flexibility by squeezing your body through tyres of different heights and difficulty levels.
  2. The final tyre can be tricky. Attempt it with care.
  3. There is no retry for this obstacle. If you fail to complete this obstacle, 5 minutes will be added to your final timing as a penalty, and you will be allowed to continue with the course.

 

 

OBSTACLE 8: WORKLOAD [MODIFIED] BY 100PLUS

Carry two 10kg cement blocks and run 100m.

Your task:

  1. Pick up two 10kg cement blocks.
  2. Carry them by the handles and run a distance of 50m forward and 50m back to your start point.
  3. Place the cement blocks back onto the start point.
  4. There is no retry for this obstacle. If you fail to complete this obstacle, 5 minutes will be added to your final timing as a penalty, and you will be allowed to continue with the course.
